Good morning all
Happy Saturday!!!!

Up and going for the day today. Heading out to do our fall vaccines and going to do our groceries - we never made it yesterday. Smoking will not be part of my day today or any day thank you much. Saying NO to smoking and keeping to my path along the Freedom Road. I offer my hand to the next winner joining me kicking ash to the curb today

While they were talking, I looked up and saw her husband. He was sitting there patiently waiting for her, looking like he was accustomed to spending hours sitting in straight back chairs. His eyes were incredibly sad and his face was haggard. He was sitting patiently, waiting for her to get her nails done. I cannot imagine how much waiting this man has done. His body language was that of a man who was resigned to gently and noblely, do what needed to be done. That is a quality in men that I...While they were talking, I looked up and saw her husband. He was sitting there patiently waiting for her, looking like he was accustomed to spending hours sitting in straight back chairs. His eyes were incredibly sad and his face was haggard. He was sitting patiently, waiting for her to get her nails done. I cannot imagine how much waiting this man has done. His body language was that of a man who was resigned to gently and noblely, do what needed to be done. That is a quality in men that I have seen often, and one that I think demonstrates a deep love for someone.

My nails were all polished and I walked back to the drying table with the little fans. Both of the women with cancer were drying their nails too. I told the woman with the wig that I had over heard her conversation about her cancer and told her that she looked beautiful and I was glad to see she felt well enough to come and get a manicure. She went on to say that she not only had lung cancer, but she also had brain cancer and tumors on every major organ. We talked a little more, and the woman with breast cancer added to the conversaton, and as the conversation went on, we were just three girls gabbing about being girls.

She said the worst part was having to depend on people to drive her where ever she needed to go. She was laughing about going through `Mall Withdrawal` since she hated to ask her husband to take her. Five more minutes of yackity yack and our nails were dry. We said our goodbyes and I watched her drive away with her sad, exhausted husband and that was that.

And that was that? Not quite. I have been haunted by that encounter ever since. The woman with a beautiful smile and gray-green skin and polyester hair and her husband who will wander around lost without her when she dies. He`s taking care of her. Who`s going to take care of him? Did he sign up for this? Hell no, but he is doing it, and he will do the hardest part after she is gone. He will have to figure out how to get up every damn day and do life without the woman he loves.

I am crying as I write this. I am not going to smoke, because I cannot imagine doing that to my husband. I cannot imagine doing that to my children. I know that was not the woman`s intent, but it made me realize it happens to many kind, sweet people who just cannot make themselves look at the fact that it really can happen to them. I am NOT going to be one of those people.

On the selfish side of it, I cannot imagine losing my independence. I HATE to ask people to help me, and I would go crazy having to wait for someone to take me to go get a manicure, or groceries, or anything else that makes up a wonderful little life like mine.

I have been selfish and I have been stupid. There is nothing that I enjoy so much that I am willing to ruin my husband`s life with me, worry my children, and lose my independence. Nothing! I am hooking a right, getting the hell out of `No Man`s Land` and I am going to go kiss my precious husband and tell him I love him, and go drive my car and do my job and love my children like it`s the gift from God that it really is.

I have been selfish and I have been ungrateful. Again, the veil has been lifted and I see clearly the people and opportunities that God has given me. I am so grateful that God let me meet this precious fellow ex-smoker, who was tricked and addicted just like me. I have no idea why she and her husband have this struggle and my husband and I do not. I don`t have words to express how much I admire both of them. I know it may sound odd to focus on her husband, but his presence broke my heart. It became obvious to me that when people get cancer, there are many people who come together to fight with them. And, everyone who loves them dies a little bit when they go.

Thank you God. Thank you Q-net. I am moving on, back into a life that I am going to live fully and with deep appreciation. NOPE!

Congratulations dear friend Teach
Waking up to many spiritual awakings by meeting people who are dealing with cancer
My friend has bone cancer and on his good days he tries really hard to remain grateful and pray filled day by day while relying care givers and friends for doctor appointments etc
We text him to let him know we are thinking of him and let him know we pray for him too
We send cards to uplift him and small tokens of faith to let him know we love him too
