We are all individuals. We are all different. Yet there is some advice I can share with you all from my own experience as a quitter.

Mindset is all important. This time I didn’t try to quit. I didn’t hope to be quit. I decided to do it and I was going to hang in there no matter what. I did not have a great plan beforehand. I just knew for sure I was going to be quit.

I was lucky to find this website on day one of my quit. A good support system is very important. You can find it in your regular 3D life, but you never know how long that will last. Folks that never smoked soon lose interest in your struggle. People that still smoke are envious, feel guilty and might try to trip you up. A good quit buddy is very nice but he or she might lose its quit and then what? Here on the Q there will always be people cheering you on and giving you advice.

Learn about addiction, about tobacco, about quitting successfully. Knowledge is power. Learn about triggers that make you think you want to smoke. Learn about nicotine, the most addictive substance in the world. Learn from others how they succeeded in quitting. learn about the freedom and the joy that beating this addiction will give.

Know that tobacco helps with nothing. It will help keep our addictions alive and it will give us bad health, a host of nasty illnesses and an even nastier death. That is all. It won’t bring back our loved ones that have gone. It won’t take away our loneliness, our fears or worries. It won’t make happy occasions happier. All tobacco is, is addiction to nicotine. And all it does is kill.

Be quit for yourself. Of course you want to give your children and grandchildren the joy of having you with them for years and years. Yet in the end this is about yourself. You want to see your children and grandchildren for years and years. You want to grow old in good health. You want to be able to participate in society for a long long time. You certainly don’t want to acquire cancer, COPD, dementia, cardio-vascular diseases. Do this for yourself and everyone around you will benefit.

Quit by whatever means necessary. I quit cold turkey because it suited me. Straight out through the wall. But whatever works for you works. Medication. The patch. Lozenges. A combination. Whatever. Just make sure to be quit! Quitting is an act of love. To yourself in the first place, to those around you and to the world as a whole. Have a great new year all, be safe and be quit! Smoke free love from Amsterdam.
