Feel like everyone is watching you?   They are!   I love this painting because it represents a concept that is near and dear to me. There is tremendous change and hope just on the other side of that wall, and the man can see it peering over. The entire universe is available and the graffiti on the wall says “The Beginning Is Near”.

Now what I am about to tell you is very important, so pay attention!  Bob Beaudine, author of “The Power of Who” and “2 Chairs” calls it your “personal environment”.  And yours is about to get a major facelift!  In the book “2 Chairs”, page 109, Bob says, “Everyone carries with them what I call a “personal environment”.  Have you noticed this?  When certain people walk into a room, you can feel it.  They have a confidence and a radiance about them others don’t.  It is clear to everyone that they know exactly who they are.

Similarly, you can often tell when there is something wrong with people.  Their whole countenance feels negative.  Their eyes are tired or sad, their energy level is low, and their body language carries shame, guilt, or worry.”   AA describes it another way.  They call it “The Promises”.  And I have personally seen them come true for thousands of people who had recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body.  From the book Alcoholics Anonymous, pages 83-84:  “If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are half way through.  We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness.  We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.  We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace.  No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others.  That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear.  We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows.  Self-seeking will slip away. Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change.  Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us.  We will intuitively know how to handle situations, which used to baffle us.  We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.”

So you see, there is WAY more to quitting smoking than quitting smoking!  That’s just the price of admission!  Recovery from addictions carries with it major benefits far greater than we can possibly imagine when we start the journey.  Ask anyone with several years or more and they will likely agree.  When we finally realize that we CAN quit smoking, it dawns on us that we can do anything else we want to as well.  And we do.  And people notice.  We start becoming good examples instead of bad examples.  Our finances change.  Our entire attitude changes.  Everything changes!

Never underestimate the power of a great example.  And you are a really great example!  The Beginning Is Near!
